Although gift-giving might involve an expectation of reciprocity, a gift is meant to be free. In many human societies, the act of mutually exchanging money, goods, etc. may contribute to social cohesion. Economists have elaborated the economics of gift-giving into the notion of a gift economy. By extension the term gift can refer to anything that makes the other happier or less sad, especially as a favour, including forgiveness and kindness.   What is a Party? A party is a gathering of people who have been invited by a host for the purposes of socialising, conversation, or recreation. A party will typically feature food and beverages, and often music and dancing as well. Some parties are held in honour of a specific person, day, or event (e.g., a birthday party). Parties of this kind are often called celebrations. A party is not necessarily a private occasion.
